My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Simply fascinating! Christopher Knight disappeared into the Maine wilderness on a random day in 1986, and spent the next 27 years in complete isolation and solitude. When he was caught breaking into a camp to steal food in April of 2013, he was known as the North Pond Hermit, a legend to the residents of this remote vacationland.
Finkel's exploration of Chris' life, as well as the history of other individuals and cultures who've chosen lives of isolation, is an intriguing tale that's part biography and part psychological exploration of humanity and modern society.
