My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I was due for a great historical fiction read, and The Nightingale didn't dissapoint!
Through Vianne and Isabelle, the reader is immersed into the daily struggles of French women during Nazi occupation. These sisters seem so different. Vianne is the mother, wife, and friend who is the rock to everyone around her. Isabelle is outlier whose rebellious and often reckless behavior bring danger in this world where resistance is not welcome. Ultimately, the choices made by each woman lead them down paths of terror, struggle, love and resiliance.
A beautifully written story!
