Review: Falling Over Sideways

Falling Over Sideways Falling Over Sideways by Jordan Sonnenblick
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Claire is an 8th grader who thinks her life is in shambles. She's been overlooked for advancement on her dance team, she's constantly being annoyed by Ryder at school, she'll never live up to the achievements of her perfect brother Matthew, and then to top it all off, her dad has a massive stroke right in front of her.

Sonnenblick's story is both humorous and tragic, and most of all, it's a realistic portrayal of those awkward middle school years. Claire definitely has those moments of self-centeredness that all tweens experience, but she also shows compassion, fear, and uncertainty, which makes her character relatable to most.
