Back to School with Digital Storytelling

After taking some much needed time away from my daily technology intake, I've jumped back in.
 My feeds seem to have a common theme today, so Digital Storytelling it is!

First, a great post by Silvia Tolisano, discusses Digital Storytelling: What it is...and what it is NOT!  So often I see teachers focusing on the how when it comes to incorporating technology into student learning, rather than focusing on the learning and letting the tech find its way in.  She points out that through digital media, students can learn great skills such as:

• Writing, speaking, communication skills 
• Oral fluency 
• Information literacy 
• Visual literacy 
• Media literacy 
• Language skills 
• Auditory skills 
• Drama Skills 
• Presentation skills 
• Listening skills 
• Publishing skills

Similarly, I found a great example of creating a digital story using the National Archives Experiences Digital Vaults.  In his Free Technology for Teachers blog, Richard Byrne demonstrates for teachers/students how to use the Digital Vaults to create posters and videos through the curation of primary resources (examples of Digital Storytelling? I say yes!).
